Our reentry strategy groups are designed to support individuals preparing to return to their communities from county correctional facilities. These structured, in-facility group sessions provide a foundation for successful reentry by addressing the real-life challenges individuals will face upon release. By combining lived experience, practical guidance, and peer support, these groups create a space where participants can begin to shift their mindset, build confidence, and develop a clear path forward.

Each group is led by Reentry Specialists who have successfully navigated their own return to the community after incarceration. This lived experience is a critical component of the program’s impact. Participants are not just hearing theory—they are learning from individuals who have faced similar obstacles, made difficult transitions, and built stable, productive lives. This credibility fosters trust, relatability, and hope. It also reinforces the belief that successful reentry is possible, even in the face of significant barriers.

Within these group sessions, participants engage in open and honest discussions about the issues facing returning citizens. These conversations address both the practical and emotional realities of reentry, including fear of the unknown, rebuilding relationships, managing expectations, and overcoming stigma. By creating a space where individuals can speak freely and be heard without judgment, the groups help normalize these challenges and reduce the sense of isolation many people feel as they approach release.

A central focus of the program is developing strategies to overcome the obstacles that commonly arise during reentry. Rather than simply identifying problems, participants are guided through solution-oriented thinking. They learn how to anticipate challenges, evaluate options, and create actionable plans. This might include preparing for difficult conversations, understanding supervision requirements, or building routines that support stability and accountability. These strategies are designed to be practical, realistic, and adaptable to each individual’s circumstances.

Employment is one of the most critical—and often most difficult—aspects of reentry, and our groups provide targeted support in this area. Participants receive guidance on how to approach the job search process with confidence, including how to address gaps in employment history, communicate their experiences honestly, and present their strengths effectively. We also discuss workplace expectations, professionalism, and strategies for maintaining employment once secured. The goal is not just to help individuals find a job, but to help them build a sustainable path toward financial independence.

Housing is another major barrier for many returning citizens, and our groups provide support in navigating this complex housing challenge. Participants explore realistic housing options, learn how to identify potential resources, and discuss strategies for securing and maintaining stable living arrangements. This may include understanding lease agreements, building positive relationships with landlords, and identifying transitional or supportive housing opportunities. By addressing housing early in the reentry process, we help reduce one of the most significant risks to long-term success.

Equally important to the content of these sessions is the sense of community they create. Participants are able to learn from one another, share insights, and offer encouragement. This peer dynamic fosters accountability and reinforces the idea that no one has to navigate reentry alone. The group setting also helps individuals practice communication, build confidence, and develop a support network even before they return to the community.

Ultimately, our reentry strategy groups are about preparation, empowerment, and possibility. By meeting individuals where they are—inside correctional facilities—and equipping them with the tools, strategies, and support they need, we help lay the groundwork for a more successful transition. Through lived experience, practical guidance, and a focus on real-world challenges like employment and housing, participants leave these groups better prepared to face reentry with clarity, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose.
